Stromboli, located in the Tyrrhenian Sea off the northern coast of Sicily, is home to Mount Stromboli—one of Italy’s four active volcanoes. This island is part of the Aeolian Islands, a volcanic arc situated to the north of Sicily. According to Strabo, it was believed to be the residence of Aeolus. The island itself, covering an area of 12.6 square kilometers, constitutes the upper third of the volcano. As of 2016, its population was approximately 500.
