Sakurajima, Japan
Sakurajima, meaning “Cherry Blossom Island” in Japanese, is a currently active stratovolcano that was initially an island and has since transformed into a peninsula. Situated in Kagoshima Prefecture on the island of Kyushu, Japan, the lava flows resulting from the eruption in 1914 fused it with the Ōsumi Peninsula. Renowned as the most active volcano in Japan, Sakurajima continues to be a prominent geological feature in the region.
