Kilauea, Hawaii

Kīlauea, an active shield volcano situated in the Hawaiian Islands, is positioned along the southeastern shore of Hawai’i Island. The volcano, with an age ranging from 210,000 to 280,000 years, surfaced above sea level approximately 100,000 years ago. Among the five volcanoes contributing to the formation of the island of Hawaii, Kīlauea holds a historical record as the most active.
