Popocatépetl, Mexico
Popocatépetl, an active stratovolcano situated in central Mexico across the states of Puebla, Morelos, and Mexico, resides in the eastern segment of the Trans-Mexican volcanic belt. With an elevation of 5,393 meters, it ranks as the second-highest peak in Mexico, following Citlaltépetl, which stands at 5,636 meters. This volcano is connected to its northern counterpart, Iztaccihuatl, through the elevated passage known as the “Paso de Cortés.”
