Mauna Loa stands as one of the five volcanoes shaping the Island of Hawaii in the U.S. state of Hawaii, located in the vast expanse of the Pacific Ocean. Recognized as the largest subaerial volcano in terms of both mass and volume, Mauna Loa has traditionally held the title of the largest volcano on Earth, surpassed only by Tamu Massif.
